I am a childbirth who has long urged her pregnant students and their partners to choose a song that they love, and sing it out loud every day to their unborn baby. The baby learns it and loves it. After birth the parents can sing it to their baby when falling asleep, when frightened or in pain, or upset. I think singing the same song frequently may be more powerful than just speaking or reading a story, because music plus words is reported to engage both sides of the brain.
